Robert I. Brownstein, is a Vice President and Director of Management Consulting with AECOM. He is currently serving as the lead for the program management team advising the CTA on the $2.2 billion Red Purple Modernization project. Prior to the CTA project, he led the program management team for Maryland on the $5.6 billion Purple Line P3 Light Rail Project. He is an internationally recognized expert with extensive experience in the public transit industry, and particular expertise in asset management, procurement and alternative project delivery. Prior to AECOM, he managed these service areas for other major consulting and technology firms. In addition, Mr. Brownstein was the general manager of Spear Technologies, a provider of maintenance and materials management software to the transit industry. In that capacity, he was responsible for the direction of activities relating to the implementation of maintenance and materials management software, related implementation services, consulting services, and business development. He also participated in the team designing and developing a computerized maintenance and materials management system for the transit industry.
Since he left Spear, Bob has been involved with complex integration projects. He has assisted transit agencies specify, evaluate, purchase, configure and install components of asset management systems. Robert has in addition managed numerous change management projects for transit agencies. These projects have included the evaluation of process and procedures, development of new process and procedures, implementation of the revised processes and procedures, optimization of the processes and procedures, and managing the change management process. Prior to joining Spear, Mr. Brownstein was a senior official with the New Jersey TRANSIT, the second largest U.S. transit agency. He served in financial and capital program-related positions and for 10 years as the director of procurement, responsible for purchasing, contract administration, and materials management and distribution. His most recent position with NJ Transit was senior director of materials. Bob has held numerous leadership positions in the transit industry. He was a member of the APTA Board of Directors, and a past member of the APTA Executive Board. He was also a member of Federal Transit Administration’s Procurement Best Practices Steering Committee, chair of the transit industry sponsored procurement reform program, and past chair of TRB’s Transit Cooperative Research Program Oversight and Project Selection Committee and the Transit Development Corporation Board of Directors. He has served as panel chair for numerous TRB study panels. In 2004, he was named APTA’s Outstanding Business Member of the Year, and is a past recipient of the Urban Mass Transportation Administrator’s Award. |
