Big Data Strategy, Driving Innovation with Big Data
My experience around data goes back to my Econometrics teacher at West Point, Damodar Gujarati. 'The Guj', as we all called him, was a world renown expert in the field, and his Econometrics classes taught me that outcomes could be statistically predicted from datasets, and I was hooked.
My attention after Graduation from West Point in 2001, shifted to other work overseas. That said, after my second deployment in the Army, someone gave me a copy of Levitt's Freakonomics, and it re-sparked that engine, Dr. Gujarati had lit all of those years before on the Hudson
In grad school, I found the analysis of methods of data analysis to slow and academics, and I quickly moved out of academia onto wall street. I loved the idea of getting real-time insight into whether your analysis of the relevant data was right or wrong.
After years of working with various investment banks, I found the proper axis for which my love of data analysis had been driving me all of these years. At Merrill Corporation, I've worked to bring the market leading Virtual Data Room, DatasiteOne to market, providing customers a platform to organize, share, and analyze their most relevant data.
We've just began even conceptualizing how we can crest the wave, of using the metadata that we have from over 60,000 large scale M&A deals from our platform. From where I sit, the future is as bright and as interesting from here, as back when I was a Cadet in 'The Guj's' Class.
